Concept Statement

Physiologist to Schizophrenic:

AW 2011 represents a carefree indulgent woman with a lust for comfort. Muted dusky pink, cream and peach tonals in chiffons, jersey, aran knit and vintage fur are contrasted with deep olive militant green jersey, royal blue silk merino and duchesse satin.

A combination of warm and cold grays in silk jersey fully express this comfortable indulgence. Floor length dainty dresses and skirts with silk jersey jumpsuits elude a playful seduction.

An equestrian blazer and velvet cape boast the Geddes-West family crest, expressing heritage and pride, whilst the fur cape proudly displays a collection of military medals.

Deeply inspired by Lolita’s portrayal of youthful lust and seduction in a light comical manner. The undercurrent of the collection expresses the physiological impact clothing has over its wearer. A fusion of diversity. Military wear, country pursuits and flirtatious dresses, creates a fashion schizophrenic- longing to be everything in one.

Who is it for?

Not appealing to an age group but more of an ideal; for any woman who wants to be indulgent whilst feeling comfortable, confident, carefree and flirtatious.

Who or Which Company would you like to work for after Graduating?

I would be ecstatic with any job in the industry from: Journalism and styling for Vogue, Elle, Harpers, V, Another Magazine, ID, In Style, Marie-Clarie or Grazia. Assistant designer for Whistles, Rag and Bone, Boy by Band of Outsiders, Toast, Stella McCartney, Birger and Mikkelesen, Nicole Farhi and Charles Anastase. Or PR for LFW or On/ Off

(even though this image doesn't reflect inspiration for this collection its portrayal on the emotional impact that clothing can have and its elaborate styling expresses the concept for my collection- image taken from Vogue 2009, Nick Knight)

A little Pick-Me-Up in the form of Fabulous Style

Whilst shopping for fabric down Berwick Street (feeling slightly down) I was hoping that indulgencing in beautiful, over priced fabric would cheer me up. But to my suprise found this amazingly dressed male.

Totally encompassing so many aspects that I want to in my collection:
Prep Style
Military
Fur
Masculine Glamour
Grays, Kakhi, Navy and Brown.

The look is very current whilst being forward too. The whole thing works! I wasn't expecting a boost from a passer by, but its been a refreshing lift.

Illustrations

I want my illustration to depict more of a mood than anything else showing the air and interpretation of my collection. Representing naivety, geekiness, refinement, composition and quality of line, of which I sought inspiration from, Steven Boraodway, Stina Pearson, Sandra Suy With my technical drawings showing exact measurements and accuracy.

Steven Broadway: I love the exaggeration of the female figure showing total voluptuousness. The richness of the pearls and jewelry relays a utter indulgence in extravagant living and accessorizing, with the poise being very typically chic. It literally looks like this is how this woman showers, bathing in her own luxurious as-well as water- sheer indulgences. The light shading in the background gives the whole illustration a softness from the black, gold and white.

Sandra Suy- the clarity and line definition is exquisite, with the representation to a female being very realistic rather than cartoon like. The subtle colours used elude delicacy and the sharp rich contrast with the depth of colour and tonal value in the flower, shines out like a becaon of opulence. The soft lines really enhance the femininty of a woman, woth the shaved head leaving an edge.

Stina Pearson- has a far more colourful approach with a less controlled craftsmanship which generates energy. passion and excitement with the diverse and rich colour combinations screaming vibrancy and enthusiasm for life. The sketching quality of the line is precise yet suggestive. This style of illustration is one I really relate to as the passion and excitement radiates through the merging colours and suggestive precision of line.

Angeline Meline- has taken the illustration and placed it into a real environment giving the illustration a realistic element showing the environment of where she belongs. Its a fun yet authentic way of expressing her mood and intentions. The exaggerated body form is both modelesque and complimentary, I like exaggerated forms as it creates a mood and playfulness to the illustration. The clothing obtains a genuine form with exactness in line drawing and quality whilst the hair and face details are suggestive rather than obvious, giving attitude and character to this illustration.

These illustartions are the inital drawing and have been tweaked and chanelled but still need more work doing until they are refined final illustartion. However they look elegant, exaggerated and naiive. The line work is suggestive and representative of the female form, face and clothing. The glasses generate a mood of gekiness. The illustrations are embodying and expressing my collection.

Jumpsuit Colour Ways

Avoiding the obvious.. I don't want to do the tonal feminine colour palette as its over kill on these colours and it will look to cute and slightly pajama like, so I need to use the masculine colour palette. Its just figuring out the correct colour ways in this palette.

The militant green with beige elbow patches and pocket details will achieve a outerwear different look off set with an equestrian style blazer will make the outfit far more accessible.

Jumpsuit Toile

This went fairly smoothly, with no major problems or construction nightmares. I'm very happy with the outcome as it looks comfortable and could be dressed up and worn comfortably to a low key event. The styling in this will be essential as to remove from the obvious pajama reference- the colour of the jersey will need to be not obvious and have no correlation to nightwear other wise it will look too lounge wear, the medium weight jersey will hang nicely, whilst giving body and allowing movement and comfort.
